Falko Weiß has been crowned winner in the Germany and Austria preliminary round of S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2018 with his signature dish entitled "City/Land/River".

The young chef from restaurant à la Minute in Trier, Germany, faced off against nine other semi-finalists during the live cooking competition which took place in Frankfurt, Germany on Monday 26th of June.

The 24-year-old, who also competed in last year’s challenge, returned afresh this year equipped with a new recipe influenced by his homeland and a steely determination to succeed.

Shortlisted into the final three by the local jury, alongside young chefs including Maximilian Kindel (Restaurant FACIL, Berlin) and Tobias Schmitt (Restaurant Lafleur, Frankfurt am Main), the trio were invited to put their skills the test for a second time during an evening event.

However, this time round Weiß’s signature dish of stewed pork belly with crisp, celeriac puree, crawfish and tea time fond, potato stones and crisp roll was impressive enough to secure his final victory. The panel of renowned professional chefs were unanimous in their decision announced in front of more than 250 invited guests: "At the end of the day the taste and the presentation decided. We decided to go for a chef that will continue to develop in Milan", explained Karlheinz Hauser.
