The young chef from Poland has been named best in the region and will represent East Europe at the Grand Finale in Milan.

Marcin Popielarz has been announced as the winner of the East Europe regional final of S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2018 and will advance to the Grand Finale in Milan in May next year.

The chef from the White Rabbit restaurant in Gdansk, Poland faced off against nine other semi-finalists with his winning signature dish of Smoked Halibut with Cucumber and Dill’ on 18 October at ‘Arkady Kubickiego’ Royal Castle in Warsaw.

Speaking of his win the young chef commented: “Traditional Polish cuisine and local products are the biggest inspiration for me. My work is a pleasure and gives me a lot of satisfaction. In my work I believe that you are as good as your last service. These words are my motivation to developing my cooking skills.”

A distinguished jury of chefs – Wojciech Modest Amaro, Ana Roš, Florin Scripca, Andre Tokiev and András Wolf – were responsible for selecting the talent.

Each tasted and evaluated the prepared signature dishes based on their adherence to the competition’s five ‘Golden Rules,’ namely:

  • ingredients
  • skill
  • genius
  • beauty and
  • message.

Chef Wojciech Modest Amaro, judge and mentor henceforth, commented: "I am impressed with the level of the semi-final. The chefs presented excellent fine dining dishes. I am very proud of the winner and I am sure that he will present a high level of polish cuisine during the global final.”

The duo will now have the opportunity to refine and perfect the signature dish over the coming months in preparation for the Grand Finale, when the young chef will face off against 21 other young talents

A panel of world renowned chefs, known as the Seven Sages, will make the final decision on who will be crowned S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2018.
